Records in the "Alaska file," accumulated by the Secretary of the Treasury and later inherited by the Department of the Interior, consist of letters received, with an index, relating to fur seal activities, 1868-1903, in the vicinity of the Pribilof Islands and, after 1890, to pelagic sealing in the North Pacific Ocean and the Bering Sea; letters received relating to salmon fisheries, 1889-1903, and to salmon preservation; reports from collectors of customs, 1895-1902, on fur seal catches, sealskin importation, and vessel clearances; and printed documents and maps.
